Special Moon Tunes Collections on July 10 to Help Relieve Hunger Insecurity
On Thursday, July 10, the community will gather at Riverside Park for a special Moon Tunes concert featuring the Smokin Bandits and Matt Mahlum Band. But this evening is about more than just music—it’s a powerful collaboration to fight food insecurity in the Coulee Region.
For years, Rotary Lights has been a cherished part of Moon Tunes, offering free train rides to children and bringing joy to families. At the heart of their mission is a simple but urgent goal: “To Feed the Hungry of the Coulee Region.” That mission takes center stage on July 10.
In partnership with Moon Tunes, Rotary Lights, Rotary District 6250, and area Rotary Clubs, the concert will feature a food drive and monetary collection to support hunger relief. All financial donations will be pledged to Rotary Lights to further their mission, while food donations will be collected and distributed by the Hunger Task Force of La Crosse.
To increase the impact, Valley View Rotary, members of the public, and other local Rotary Clubs are offering matching contributions for financial gifts made during the event.

The club started the new Rotary year with a Paul Harris Fellowship presentation. Bob Newberry received his first fellowship July 2.
Newberry attended UW-La Crosse from 1973-79, earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in marketing. He eventually earned a doctorate in marketing from UW-Milwaukee in 1997. After teaching 25 years, he retired as a professor from Winona State University in 2017. He was also a successful men’s and women’s golf coach at Winona State.
Newberry has been involved in numerous Valley View projects since joining the club in July 2022, helping with blood drives, Moon Tunes and many more activities. He is also a board member of International Health Partners, a Minnesota non-profit that supports a pediatric hospital in Tanzania, East Africa. He's well-known for the Bricks for Babies Golf Outing and Fundraiser held annually.
A group of Interact Students from Aquinas High School presented their project to provide these kits. The kits are filled with items for preventative healthcare and wellness. They have a goal of providing 1,000 kits through the St. Clare Health Mission. Any financial help would be appreciated.
